Kim out of Indian Wells
World number one Kim Clijsters pulls out of Indian Wells due to a recurring ankle injury. The defending champion reinjured the right ankle that forced her out of the Australian Open in January.
“I am very disappointed to have to withdraw from Indian Wells,” said Clijsters. “I reaggravated the right ankle that I injured in Australia this past week, and now require some time off to get back to 100%. Indian Wells has always been one of my favorite tournaments, and I am very much looking forward to playing there next year.”
Top seeds at Indian Wells include former World No. 1 Lindsay Davenport,Justine Henin-Hardenne; and Wimbledon champion Maria Sharapova.
