Konta bagels Hsieh on way to Indian Wells third round
Great Britain’s Johanna Konta bageled Su-Wei Hsieh on her way to a comfortable 6-0, 6-2 victory at Indian Wells on Friday.
Konta, 27, eased through her opening round match against Pauline Parmentier and it was a similar story against Hsieh.
The British number one was dominant in the opening set as she consistently unsettled her opponent and ended up taking the bagel.
Hsieh finally won a service game on the fifth attempt having been broken in the previous four but she was unable to prevent Konta from securing another easy victory.
It moves Konta into the third round where she will face the winner of the match between Kiki Bertens and Magda Linette.
It also keeps the Brit on course for a potential meeting with Serena Williams.
In her first two matches Konta has saved an astonishing 22 out of a possible 23 break points.
There was bad news for former US Open champion Sloane Stephens as she was hammered by Stefanie Voegele 6-3, 6-0.
By contrast to Konta’s fluidity Stephens looked totally out of sorts and had no answer to Voegele.
