The former world number one has been sidelined since March with an ankle problem which ruled her out of the French Open but she was back on court in Nottingham and earned a 7-5 6-3 first-round win over Cagla Buyukakcay.
"It is nice to be back, it felt nice to be back on court, there are always things I want to do better but all in all for a first match back in 10 weeks, it's just great," said Wozniacki.
"I felt a little bit rusty but at the same time it could have been a lot worse so I am pleased with result and pleased with how I fought."
On featuring at the Nottingham Tennis Centre for the first time: "It's really nice how they take good care of you here and the courts are nice and the practise courts are good. It's all positive things."
Fourth-seed Monica Puig eased into the second round with a 6-1 6-1 success over Kai-Lin Zhang but fifth-seed Yanina Wickmayer was beaten 7-5 7-6 (7/5) by lucky loser Andrea Hlavackova.
It was a poor day for the Brits in action on home soil as only Tara Moore progressed.
Moore registered just a second ever WTA Tour win when she beat Donna Vekic 6-2 7-5 which builds on her run to the final of the ITF event in Eastbourne last week.
However, there were defeats for Laura Robson - downed 6-3 7-5 by Michelle Larcher de Brito - and Naomi Broady, who was blown away by Su-Wei Hsieh.
Heather Watson was also beaten as Magdalena Rybarikova came from a set down to win 4-6 6-0 6-4 .
Alison Riske ensured there was no danger against Mona Barthel, with a 6-2 6-1 victory, Ashleigh Barty had too much for Shuai Peng in a 6-3 6-2 success and Tamira Paszek beat Kurumi Nara 6-4 6-2.
