The double individual world champion and two-time Olympic veteran, who recorded a fifth-place finish at the 2012 Olympics, hasn't raced since giving birth to her second child in 2017 and underwent back surgery last year.
But the 34-year-old says she is willing to attempt to return to competing if her body can cope with the physical demands of the sport.
"It will be a big challenge to return to top level racing, but I will try," said the Scot, who was awarded an MBE for her services to triathlon.
"I am extremely proud of what I have achieved under tough circumstances and so thankful to the team around me that worked so hard to get me to races in good fitness."
In Jenkins absence, the level of competition amongst Great Britain's women has continued to rise with the emergence of Olympic bronze medallist Vicky Holland.
Holland scooped her first individual world championship title in 2018 and Jenkins believes the triple Commonwealth medallist has much more to offer in the future.
"It was great to watch Vicky win the World title," said Jenkins. "She has improved so much over the last few years and it was well deserved.
"It's always interesting at the start of the new season to see who will come out firing. Some countries will have Olympic selection this year so that may affect some athletes' plans. I hope it will be an exciting season."
