Great Britain’s Sian Rainsley held off the American duo of Katie Zaferes and Kirsten Kasper to claim her first World Triathlon Cup win.
Rainsley underlined her ability with an impressive showing in Hong Kong, crossing the line in under an hour.
The 26-year-old was nine seconds faster than 2019 world champion Zaferes, completing the sprint-distance race in 59 minutes and 44 seconds.
"I didn't race much last year - I was quite injured - so just being back on the start line was exciting," Rainsley told World Triathlon.
"I felt a bit more relaxed because I thought 'let's just blow off the cobwebs'.
"I've been training a lot with my partner Tom [Bishop], who just podiumed at a 70.3 in Australia this morning, so it's a good day for our household.
"I only just got on the front group, so was happy to make that, and on the last run lap, I just sprinted as hard as I could and it paid off today.”
After a gruelling 750m swim and 20km bike ride, Rainsley, Zaferes and Kasper made their attack during the run, with the Briton proving too strong with the decisive move.
Meanwhile, GB’s Olivia Mathias and Vicky Holland were seventh and 11th respectively, and Sophie Alden 19th.
In the men’s race, Briton Max Stapley secured a sixth-placed finish in 53:55, some 38 seconds behind race winner Alberto Gonzalez Garcia, of Spain.
