COSTA RICA - On the International Day of University Sports, Costa Rica the Costa Rican universities celebrated the event throughout the country.
Sports activities, art, recreation and healthy lifestyles were the scene of this great party where more than two thousand students participated on campuses of the University of Costa Rica, the Costa Rican Tech, the National University, the National Technical University and the Florencio del Castillo University.
The objective of the celebration is to make the university sport visible as a tool in the professional formation of the country’s students, stars of today and leaders of the future.
The University sport as an element in the national sports pyramid is one of the main challenges that the federation of Costa Rica has assumed with the objective of contributing to the development of the national sport.
One of the academic activities consisted of a Forum with university students who have participated in different FISU events. They told their sports experiences at Universities, World Championships, Forums and Volunteering, and confirmed the double career at university is possible. “Combining academic studies with sport, brings great satisfaction and allows us to be better professionals”, said engineer Yong Sheng Arrieta, who participated in two World University Cycling Championships and currently works in a data center. Also Natasha Campos, a former member of the FISU Student Committee, invited students to take part in sport and include sport as part of healthy lifestyle. Paola Villegas, who was part of the volunteer programme in Kazan, was emphatic. “This has been the best experience of my life.”
