Koreans outclass Sri Lanka as badminton begins

Korea’s home team outplayed Sri Lanka in the Group C preliminaries as the team competition of the 12th World University Badminton Championship took place in the Yeomju Gymnasium.
In the first singles and doubles matches, the Korean team scored outstanding points and proved themselves as one of the best teams of the tournament. In the afternoon match between Great Britain and Sri Lanka, the European giant ruled the court, widening the score gap after each set of game. The two countries, Korea and Great Britain, who made a great start on the first competition day, will compete against each other today, November 7th.
In the Group A preliminaries, China won the game against Hong Kong in the second match. In the following game, which featured Hong Kong against Russia, the match was tight, but in the mixed doubles, Russia finally outplayed Hong Kong. Russia will square off against China today.
For the Group B preliminaries, Japan defeated South Africa in the singles and doubles matches. South Africa sought for a chance for revival in the match against Canada. Unfortunately, after a long see-saw game, they were defeated by Canada in the women’s doubles. Canada will now have to confront Japan today.
The Group D preliminaries were the interesting ones. In the match between Chinese Taipei and Spain, the women’s singles went into overtime with a score of 21-23 and 21-15. In the end, Spain lost 25 to 23. Afterwards in the game with Poland, Spain put up a good fight going neck and neck with Poland with a score of 19-21, but unfortunately, they had to take the bitter cup once more. Chinese Taipei and Poland will take the ground to determine the champion.
