Great Fightbacks: Jacky Ickx and the miracle of 1977

It was one of the most dramatic finishes to any motor race - that Jacky Ickx's defining moment came at the end of 24 hours of racing made it even more spectacular.

Ickx was racing with Porsche at Le Mans 24hrs in 1977 and just 45 minutes before the end of the gruelling race, disaster struck when the Porsche 936 suffered a massive technical failure.

Ickx and his colleagues had to sweat it out in the pits for a full 30 minutes as their rivals at Renault closed in - but the Porsche engineers did their hob and got the car round the final two laps on only five cylinders.
