Filippi to start WTCC Opening Race in China from pole
Pole position for the Opening Race at FIA WTCC Race of China has been secured by John Filippi, while all five cars will feature in the front five places.
The 21-year-old Frenchman claimed the DHL-presented pole position for the second time this season by achieving 10th place in Q2 in qualifying in his Campos Racing Chevrolet RML Cruze.
Fellow Cruze driver Tom Coronel did look set for the position ahead of Filippi, but the Dutchman was dumped outside of the top 10 by a late improvement by Nicky Catsburg.
Filippi will be joined on the front row for the Opening Race by Norbert Michelisz after an otherwise difficult qualifying session for Honda.
Tom Chilton will start third in his Citroën, followed by the Volvo of the returning Fredrik Ekblom and the LADA of Gabriele Tarquini.
