Ma hadn’t driven in the WTCC since November 2015 but proved quick aboard his Sébastien Loeb Racing Citroën C-Elysée.
Fifth fastest in Free Practice 1, the Chinese driver was also in the top 10 in Free Practice 2 despite not running on new tyres in either session.
Although a rare error in Qualifying Q1 prevented a bid for a high starting position in the two races, Ma overcame a drive-through penalty to set the fastest lap in the rain-hit Main Race. He also scored WTCC Trophy points in both outings.
Afterwards Ma said: “What a joy to be back at the wheel of a Citroën C-Elysée with the Sébastien Loeb Racing team members. The team did a superb job of providing me with the best possible car. The Opening Race didn’t allow me to fight till the end, but in the Main Race, the car’s potential was proved by earning the fastest lap and what a burst of speed! I’d like to thank Dominique Heintz and Sébastien Loeb, and the whole team, for supporting me in joining this event in Macau.”
