WTCC Opening Race pole: Michigami takes DHL award
Ryo Michigami earned the DHL Pole Position award and will start the Opening Race of the WTCC Race of Portugal from pole position on Sunday in Vila Real.
The Japanese finished 10thin the Q2 session of the World Touring Car Championship round, which ensured his pole position for the reverse-grid Opening Race.
“It’s been difficult,” said the Honda Racing Team JAS driver. “But the balance is good. Less attack, more lap time [around this circuit].”
Polestar Cyan Racing’s Nestor Girolami will start beside him on the front row, after a difficult qualifying session for the Argentinian driver. In Q1 he hit the barriers at Turn 6 twice, which was a major contribution to a lengthy red flag session.
Esteban Guerrieri in Campos Racing’s Chevrolet RML Cruze TC1 and Tom Chilton in Sebastien Loeb Racing’s Citroën C-Elysée WTCC will line up on the second row.
The Opening Race of the FIA WTCC Race of Portugal weekend is due to start on Sunday at 16.30h local time.
