World Cup champion Ivica Kostelic has had successful surgery on a torn meniscus in his right knee and could be back in action in time for next month's races in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia.
Kostelic limped away after winning Sunday's World Cup super-combined race at the Russian resort of Krasnaya Polyana which will host races at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.
"The surgery was successful. If there is no pain and the rehabilitation goes as scheduled, a comeback is possible at Kranjska Gora (March 10-11)," Croatia's alpine ski federation general manager Vedran Pavlek told Reuters.
Kostelic's father Ante blamed the injury on Sunday's "aggressive course".
The 32-year-old Croatian, who clinched the super-combined title on Sunday to claim the fifth World Cup trophy of his career, leads this season's overall standings by 70 points from Swiss Beat Feuz with 18 races to go.
Kostelic has had numerous knee injuries in his career and underwent surgery on his right knee in May.
