Heading to Canada the best World Cup result for Stuhec was a fourth-place Super-G finish in Beaver Creek just over three years ago.
But she blew that out of the water as she came home in 1:45.48 minutes to pip Sofia Goggia to the opening win – finishing 0.22 seconds ahead of the Italian.
Completing the podium was Swede Kajsa Kling who crossed in 1:45.79, meaning Lara Gut of Switzerland had to settle for fourth.
But there was no doubting who the star of the show was, with 26-year-old Stuhec marking her first World Cup podium finish in the best possible way.
