The most medalled skier in Olympic history Kjetl Andre Aamodt will skip the combined after hurting his knee in the downhill. "Right now, my knee hurts so I don't know if I will race anymore in these Olympics," Aamodt told Eurosport after finishing fourth
Norway's team doctor Abild Danielsen told Reuters an X-ray examination shows no major damage but Aamodt was suffering from a sore left knee and would sit out the combined event on Tuesday.
"We are hoping that he will be back in gold medal state on Saturday for the super-G," Danielsen said.
At the Salt Lake City Games in 2002, Aamodt won two gold medals, one in the Super G and the other in the combined to bring his record tally to seven.
"I'm surprised that I finished fourth. I missed a jump and I hurt my knee so I'm quite bitter," the 1994 Olympic downhill champion told Eurosport after the race.
