Olympic champion Christie impressed by British sprinters in 2014

The season just gone was one to savour for British sprinting with Richard Kilty kicking things off by claiming 60m gold at the World Indoor Championships in Poland.

Adam Gemili then followed this up with 100m silver at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and 200m gold at the European Championships, fellow Brit James Dasaolu picking up the 100m title from the latter as well.

On top of that Team England won 4x100m silver at the Commonwealth Games before a Great Britain team upgraded to gold at the Europeans in Zurich.

And Christie � who won 100m gold at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona � is adamant the future bodes well for British sprinting ahead of next year's World Championships in Beijing and the 2016 Rio Games.

The 54-year-old said: "This year went really well for the Brits and the Europeans and Commonwealths gave the confidence for the young people to go to the Worlds or the Olympics to make their marks.

"It gave them that vital experience which they're going to need next year for the World Championships and then at the Olympics in Rio in 2016.

"These boys run half as much as we used to but they've got to run a lot more races and, when they do, run them with some fast people."
