Brimin Kipruto after Kenya's clean sweep in the men's steeplechase:
"It's the first time I won a gold medal. We will celebrate tonight as a team, as a country."
Yelena Isinbayeva on retaining her Pole Vault title but failing to break her world record:
"The only small disappointment is that I did not jump the world record. I wanted to show everybody something special. Maybe I should have had more jumps in between instead of going from 4:80 to 5.02."
Kerron Clement on his surprise 400m hurdles win:
"I'm just really, really thankful to come to Osaka and beat the best. I came away from Helsinki in 2005 without a medal but I've matured a lot and learned to run through the line."
Tatyana Lebedeva dismisses her long jump victory in favour of the triple jump:
"The triple jump is more important to me. Long jump was kind of a warm-up."
Janeth Jepkosgei flies the flag for Kenya's shorter distance runners after her 800m triumph:
"This is the first medal for middle distance where we don't have many runners. It's a challenge to my fellow Kenyans to do more at middle distance and not just concentrate on long distances."
100m champion Tyson Gay on why he eased up in his 200m quarter final:
"I felt pretty sluggish. I didn't want to run this fast, but my competitors are tough. They gave me a tough run in the first race."
American star Jeremy Wariner after cruising through the heats of the 400m:
"I felt good. I shut it down at the 250 so I will see about tomorrow [in the semi-final]. I'm ready to go."
Discus winner Gerd Kanter refuses to write off former champion Virgilijus Alekna after beating the 35-year-old into fourth:
"Virgilijus is the best discus thrower ever and inspired me a lot in recent years. I think he will be back, you cannot count him out. It will be tough to beat him again at the Olympics."
BRITISH VIEW
Britain's 400m hurdles runner Tasha Danvers-Smith on making the women's final after seeing her career stall due to motherhood and injury:
"I am building myself back up to where I was and where I could have been."
Tim Benjamin on making the 400m semi final after an injury-ravaged two seasons:
"It's not my goal achieved. If I can go under 45 seconds and get into the final, that's great."
