The Lancashire wicketkeeper deputised for the rested Eoin Morgan in a tight series-clinching win over Pakistan in Dubai.
Replying to England's 172 for eight, Pakistan needed four to win off the last ball, but Anwar Ali was unable to make contact and England won by three runs.
A second win in successive days clinched the three-match series and Buttler told Sky Sports 2: "I'll take that.
"It's a bit more stressful being captain, but it was a performance full of character from us."
James Vince's 38 and Buttler's 33 were the top scores as a sometimes stuttering England innings reached a par total.
Pakistan needed 47 from the last three overs, but captain Shahid Afridi hit three sixes off Chris Woakes in the 18th to keep their hopes alive. Another 14 came from the next over before Woakes bounced back with a wicket and just seven runs conceded in the last.
Buttler continued: "We didn't play our best, we certainly weren't as fluent as we would like, but we got up to a good score.
"Then we thought we'd done the work with the ball, but Afridi came in and played as he can - but we got over the line. For Woakes to come back, having bowled that over at Afridi, to get it right shows a lot about him.
"It's encouraging as a side to win when we didn't feel we played our best."
Afridi said: "I want to congratulate the England team, they really played well.
"It was a good game of cricket, there are some areas we already discussed with the coaches that we should improve as quickly as possible.
"(Twenty20) is very fast cricket so we should raise our standard of fielding and our quickness level, that is the demand of this cricket."
The skipper's 24 off only eight balls, one of four Pakistan scores in the 20s, followed a fine three for 15 with the ball.
But having holed out off the last ball of his big over against Woakes, he admitted: "I can say I missed the chance, it was a great opportunity to win the game.
"My performance is always very important to the game, I am trying in each and every game to do well."
