Relegation-threatened Hampshire decided to pursue victory at the Ageas Bowl, forfeiting their second innings after Yorkshire agreed to declare on 97 for four.
That left Yorkshire pursuing 304 in 96 overs - with captain Andrew Gale (125) and Jack Leaning (76) doing the bulk of the scoring in a five-wicket win.
That took the Tykes to 265 points, a new high watermark in the two-tier championship.
At the other end of the table, Worcestershire's relegation was confirmed by Durham at Chester-le-Street.
It was another contrived finish - Worcestershire's desperation forcing them to set a generous target of 291 in 71 overs.
Scott Borthwick led the way with 99 as the hosts sealed a three-wicket victory with 4.2 overs to spare.
Nottinghamshire preserved their hopes of finishing runners-up by grinding out a draw with Warwickshire at Edgbaston.
Unlike Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire were in no mood to create a contest in a game that was stalled by rain and bad light.
They continued their first innings, England's James Taylor out for 164 in a total of 365, before the Bears were dismissed for 187.
Sussex and Somerset moved a step closer to top-flight safety with a draw at Hove.
Somerset skipper Marcus Trescothick owned the day, hitting the sixth double ton of his career and finishing 210 not out in a major stand with Peter Trego (100no).
