James, who overcame illness and injury to fight her way back onto the team, reached the final by beating Ligtlee twice in the best-of-three rounds semi-finals by a comfortable margin, to look like a real contender for the gold.
In the first of the final sprint races, Vogel just pipped James to the post to cross the line by the narrowest of margins. Despite battling to come back in the second race, James could not get ahead of Vogel, who again just beat her to the line.
Marchant, who was beaten twice by Vogel in the semi-finals, went on to race for bronze against Ligtlee.
Winning the first race by a comfortable margin, Marchant's second race looked as tight as it could be but she took the bronze as she just surged ahead of her opponent.

James, who won silver in the keirin, overcame world champion Zhong Tianshi 2-0 in her quarter-final.
Meanwhile, Marchant proved too strong for Lithuania’s Simona Krupeckaite as she also won 2-0.
The British duo have been separated in the semi-finals however, meaning they remain on course for a one-two.
