Joaquim Rodriguez makes it two in a row at Tour of the Basque Country

Katusha’s Joaquim Rodriquez claimed his second consecutive stage win at the end of stage four of the Tour of the Basque Country, completing the 162.2 kilometre race in a time of 4.05:10.

The 35-year-old Spaniard out-sprinted his rivals for the second time in two days, finishing ahead of Dutchman Bauke Mollema of Trek Factory Racing and Simon Yates of Orica-GreenEdge.

The race climaxed with a descent into Arrate, a neighbourhood in the city of Eibar, with Rodriguez leading his chasers over the line.

Despite his two wins Rodriguez trails Sergio Henao in the overall standings, with the Colombian retaining the yellow jersey by virtue of finishing in a small pack right behind the winner.

Friday’s fifth stage is a 155.5km ride from Eibar to Aia before Saturday’s decisive individual time trial.
