Barcelona discussing new deal with Luis Suarez - reports

Meetings have already began between the club and Pere Guardiola, Suarez’s representative, and a rough outline of a contract has been agreed to provide the foundation for more formal talks.

Though Suarez himself is not thought to be pressing for the renewal, Sport adds that the whole club accepts Neymar and Suarez’s salaries should be on the same level, but Neymar’s new contract puts him significantly higher than the Uruguayan.

Suarez is currently on the level of Gerard Pique, Sergio Busquets and Andres Iniesta but the intention is to move him up a step, even though he turns 30 in January and his potential career at the club will therefore not have the longevity of Neymar’s.

Though Barca recognise Suarez’s importance since moving from Liverpool in the summer of 2014 and want to acknowledge that financially, and his contract, which runs to 2019, will be given an extra year.
