Bayern Munich boss Carlo Ancelotti was not entirely pleased with his side's display in their 3-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen in their Bundesliga opener.
The hosts led 2-0 at the break thanks to goals on their league debuts from Niklas Sule and Corentin Tolisso before Robert Lewandowski's penalty, awarded by the video assistant referee, made it 3-0 in the second half.
But Admir Mehmedi pulled one back for Leverkusen and they had chances to score more.
Ancelotti said on the Bayern website: "It was a hard game. We scored early and then we did not defend well.
"We allowed them too much space between the lines.
"We have to improve, we have to be more compact."
Leverkusen's new coach Heiko Herrlich was pleased with his side's response in the second half.
"When you lose it is never a nice feeling. However, I don't think that we have to be ashamed of our performance," he said.
"We played with courage up front and created numerous chances."
