Cologne are reportedly stepping up their efforts to find a new goalkeeper, as Faryd Mondragon prepares to leave Germany for Major League Soccer in the winter transfer window.
The 39-year-old Colombian - who is currently the oldest player in the Bundesliga and has made 73 league appearances for Die Geissboecke - will link up with the Philadelphia Union on a free transfer in January, reported in German magazine Kicker, in accordance with a deal struck with Cologne's former general manager Michael Meier.
Mondragon has, in recent months, been usurped in the first team by young Croatian Miro Vardovic, but has started the last three games in goal for Cologne - including a vital 1-0 win at fellow Bundesliga strugglers Stuttgart.
Markus Proell of Eintracht Frankfurt and Dennis Eilhoff of Arminia Bielefeld have been mooted as possible replacements for the former Galatasaray shot-stopper.
