Arjen Robben scored his 100th goal for Bayern Munich as his side extended their lead at the top of the Bundesliga to 12 points after a 2-0 victory over Freiburg at the Allianz Arena.
Robben’s first-half goal followed by a tap-in from Thomas Mueller helped seal the victory and allowed Bayern Munich to move to 42 points for the season, 12 ahead of second-placed Wolfsburg.
It took Pep Guardiola’s side 41 minutes to open the scoring, but it was well worth the wait as Robben completed a fine move instigated by playmaker Xabi Alonso.
The Spanish midfielder played a delightful lobbed pass to Franck Ribery, who found Robben with a cushioned header and he slid the ball into the back of the net.
Mueller added Bayern’s second two minutes into the second period after Juan Bernat struck the crossbar and the poacher was on hand to head the ball into an empty net.
A number of great saves from Roman Burki in the Freiburg goal denied Bayern on several occasions to extend their lead further.
An injury to Alonso who limped off mid-way through the second-half took the shine off another great performance from the Bundesliga champions.
Bayern Munich now travel to Mainz on Friday evening where they will play their final match before the winter break commences.

KEY MOMENTS
24’ - SAVE! Goetze is denied at point blank range by Burki who makes a wonderful save to deny the World Cup winner. Bayern are getting closer but no opening goal just yet.
41’ - GOAL! Bayern 1-0 Freiburg. Bayern finally have the lead! A wonderful pass from Alonso finds Ribery behind the defence and, in space, he plays a cushion header to Robben who simply slides the ball home. What a goal.
43’ - POST! Mueller almost adds a second as his clever flick hits off the post.
48’ - GOAL! Bayern 2-0 Freiburg. Mueller makes it two with a simple tap in after Bernat hammered the cross bar!
59’ - ALONSO INJURED! The Spanish midfielder has limped off injured - fingers crossed it's not too serious.
69’ - SAVE! Bernat is denied by a wonderful save from Burki from close range after he gathered a delightful cross from Mueller. Burki has certainly kept the scoreline respectable for his side tonight.
70’ - POST! Bernat rattles the woodwork for the second time this evening - it looks like it's not his day!
82’ - CHANCE! Robben almost grabs Bayern's third with a typical strike as he cuts in from the flank and strikes the ball with his left foot which Burki - again - does well to save.
KEY STATS
Arjen Robben has now scored 100 goals for Bayern Munich in all competitions.
Bayern Munich have now won 22 of the 31 top-flight matches contested against Freiburg.
TALKING POINT
Injury to Xabi Alonso is worrying for Bayern. The former Liverpool midfielder was, once again, instrumental in midfield and was the architect for his side’s opening goal. Picking up any injury is worrying at 33 years of age, and Pep Guardiola will be keeping his fingers crossed that Alonso is not out for an extended period of time.
MAN OF THE MATCH
Roman Burki (Freiburg): The Swiss goalkeeper was on top of his game. He saved his team from a hammering and did well to frustrate Juan Bernat in particular.
