England-bound Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola is itching for action after the Bundesliga's winter break and admitted: "It's boring going so long without playing."
The German league has been in its winter recess since December 20 and finally resumes on Friday night when champions Bayern travel to Hamburg.
Guardiola looks destined to end up in the Premier League - which famously does not have a winter break - and judging from his comments on Thursday it seems that may well suit him.
"I'm happy that the first competitive fixture is finally upon us," he told the club's official website.
"It's boring going so long without playing."
Guardiola's team begin the second half of the campaign eight points clear of second-placed Borussia Dortmund and head north to face a team who they beat 5-0 in the opening round of games.
The former Barcelona coach has warned though that Hamburg will be a different proposition this time around.
"It is a completely different team from when we last played them - they are aggressive going forward."
Guardiola declared his team were "ready" for the second half of the season after a break which featured a warm-weather training camp in Qatar.
Our View
Finally, a manager who isn't grumbling about the lack of a winter break in English football. Though dare we suggest that by this time next year Pep might well have changed his mind?
