Liverpool crashed to a 2-0 defeat away at Burnley after having beaten Arsenal 4-3 in their opening match of the season.
Sean Dyche's men shocked Liverpool with a goal in the first two minutes when Sam Vokes opened the scoring, and then scored a second on the counter-attack through Andre Gray, as Steven Defour stumbled his way from deep to just outside the box.
Liverpool failed to build on their win last weekend, despite James Milner providing more solidity at left wing-back than the dropped Alberto Moreno.
Burnley deserve credit for carrying out their game-plan effectively, and for their solid defending, but they will be unlikely to be quite so effective with similar tactics in future.

Jurgen Klopp will worry how toothless his side were despite having most of the ball.

TALKING POINT

Can Jurgen Klopp do much more with this squad? If Alberto Moreno and James Milner are the best options at left wing-back, then there is only so much any manager could do. The transfer window is not the solution to every problem a club faces, but Liverpool face the same problem as they usually do - they don’t have enough good players. It will take more than just Klopp’s ability to transform this squad into a consistently, rather than occasionally, excellent team.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Andre Gray (Burnley): He set up Sam Vokes for the first goal, and then was on hand to score the second for Burnley. His pace and direct play made it hard for a ramshackle Liverpool defence to stay calm on the rare occasions they were attacked, and his first start in the Premier League augurs well.

KEY MOMENTS

2’ - GOAL! Burnley 1-0 Liverpool. Vokes scores - Liverpool lose the ball cheaply in defence, the ball is worked to Vokes by Gray, and he lashes in an excellent shot inside the near post.
29’ - STURRIDGE SHOT - Clyne plays the ball inside for Sturridge. He's got time and space for a shot, but his curling effort is a yard or so wide.
37’ - GOAL! Burnley 2-0 Liverpool. Gray scores - Defour picks up the ball in his own half. He rides a few challenges, 40 yards out from goal. He shifts the ball right to Gray, who takes a couple of quick touches into the box, and he sends a low shot into the bottom corner.
50’ - COUTINHO SHOT - Clyne chases down Mee and forces the last touch off him to win a throw-in high up the pitch on the right. Liverpool play from right to left, and back again. They work a chance for Coutinho to shoot from distance, but it's straight at Heaton.
52’ - HEATON SAVE - Firmino has a go from distance, but this effort is tough for Heaton, curling away from him as he beats it behind.
78’ - GRUJIC SHOT - Grujic receives the ball on the edge of the box, cuts back onto his left, and Heaton stretches to tip his shot over.
