On why Chelsea’s results are so bad

What he said: “It’s a combination of factors.”
What he meant: “1-We can’t attack; 2-We can’t defend.”

On external factors

What he said: “We don’t want to blame social or political problems in some corner of the globe, you don’t want to blame these aspects or bring these aspects to football problems. So everything is football related, of course.”
What he meant: “We’re blaming the refs.”

On how long he has to turn things around

What he said: “Three years and seven months.”
What he meant: “Three days and seven hours.”

On the Chelsea squad

What he said: “Giving their best every minute of every training session. Giving solidarity in between all of us. Fantastic personal relationship. Very good professional relationship.”
What he meant: “But not with Eva.”

On the BBC’s claim that a player ‘would rather lose than win for Mourinho’

What they said
Mourinho: “If I accuse you of being a dishonest journalist I think you would be very upset and probably you'd take legal action.”
Chelsea head of communications Steve Atkins: “The prominence which they gave a story which by their own admission came second or third hand is very disappointing. From a news organisation which prides itself on its integrity, we strongly feel that they fell well short of their standards.”
What they meant: “Dishonest journalism from the BBC.”

On learning

What he said: “When you reach my level it's difficult to learn from others, you have to learn from yourself. I learn day by day.”
What he meant: "Did I really just channel Brendan ‘my biggest mentor is myself’ Rodgers?”

On Chelsea’s slump

What he said: "In 2004, after winning the Champions League, I said one day the bad results will come ... and I will deal with them in with the same honesty and dignity as always."
What he meant: "That is actually true, if you think about it."
