Nice needed extra time to beat Ligue 2 side Creteil 2-1 and make it into the last 16 of French Cup.
Nice arrived at the Stade Dominique Duvachelle without a win in nine games, and their lack of confidence showed during the 90 minutes as Creteil proved their equal.
Indeed, Nice were indebted to their goalkeeper Damien Gregorini, who kept out Ali Boulebda on more than one occasion during the 90 and forced extra time.
That was when they leapt into gear as Marama Vahirua scored for only the second time this season as he chipped the ball over the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
Midfielder Cyril Rool appeared to have wrapped things up for the away side when he blasted a 25-yard strike into the back of the net three minutes into the second period of extra time.
But the Ligue 1 front-runners were given an extremely nervous final few minutes when Portuguese veteran Rui Pataca netted from the penalty spot, but held on.
