Spain assistant coach Toni Grande has hinted the team would welcome the retired World Cup winners back into the fold.
Grande was speaking on Radio Marca, with his comments reported by AS.
“We’re without Carles Puyol, Xavi Hernandez, Xabi Alonso…you have to build another team,” Grande said.
“But I can’t help thinking of the returns of Andrea Pirlo or Tiago Mendes. Why not them? I know it would be difficult.”
Grande added that he will be alongside Vicente Del Bosque until Euro 2016 but after that, the pair’s future is up in the air.
“Before the World Cup we signed contracts but Del Bosque warned it was inconclusive,” he noted.
“He thought about leaving but looked again and saw we had to fulfil our commitment. We will be in France in 2016 and after that it’s more difficult.”
