Gervinho wants sanctions after Feyenoord 'banana' incident

The Ivorian was the subject of the racist action during his side’s Europa League Last 32 win at Feyenoord, with the incident causing a significant delay to the match.

“I didn’t notice at first,” Gervinho told BeIn Sports.

“Then one of my teammates made me aware, and the referee came and spoke to me.

“I think it presents a bad image of football, and I hope that sanctions are imposed, because it’s such a frustrating thing, not just for the person suffering it, but also for my family, who support me.”
