Adam Bogdan produced an outstanding performance in goal as Bolton Wanderers defended stoutly to earn a heroic 0-0 draw with Liverpool in the FA Cup fourth round at Anfield.
Neil Lennon's Championship side were cheered on by 6,500 visiting fans, and fully deserved their replay at the Macron Stadium after refusing to buckle as Liverpool piled on the pressure in the second half.
Hungarian goalkeeper Bogdan made several eye-catching stops, but Bolton also needed some luck with referee Kevin Friend opting against sending off visiting captain Matt Mills when he clearly fouled substitute Lazar Markovic as the home side began to find space early in the second period.
While Friend will point out that he missed the Mills foul, Liverpool were just as guilty of blowing opportunities with Fabio Borini wasting a glorious chance to clinch it in injury time for Brendan Rodgers's side when he headed a yard wide from a Jordan Henderson cross.
But it would have been harsh on Bolton if they had conceded after such an honest shift.
KEY MOMENTS
10' SAVE! Henderson with a nice effort at goal, but Bogdan is down quickly to his left to make a solid enough stop.
32' CHANCE! Moxey with a powerful effort at goal. Plenty of pace and power. Not sure if Mignolet would have got there if that ball had been on target.
33' CHANCE! Sterling with a cross. Met by Manquillo, but Lallana can't turn in time to get a shot away under pressure from Ream.
36' CHANCE! Liverpool's latest shot comes in from Lallana, but his swerving, dipping shot from distance is all too easy for Bodgan in the Bolton goal.
50' NO RED CARD! Markovic seemed to be caught late by Mills, but referee Kevin Friend said no foul.
53' CHANCE! Brilliant save from Bogdan to race off his line in making a brave stop af the feet of Sterling. Superb stuff from the goalie.
58' CHANCE! Henderson with the corner. Breaks to Coutinho. He has a couple of shots at goal, but Bolton do well to clear the danger. The visiting defence very compact.
59' SAVE! Bogdan dives to make the stop from Coutinho. Manquillo then fires the ball wide seconds later. Liverpool going close to this opening goal.
61' CHANCE! Gudjohnsen with the chance for Bolton, but he nudges his effort wide of goal. Real chance for Bolton, but not snapped up.
64' CHANCE! Another chance for Gudjohnsen from 12 yards out. Blasts over bar. Couldn't keep the ball down after Wilkinson had drifted away from Manquillo.
90+1' CHANCE! Fabio Borini nods a yard wide from the Henderson cross. Should have hit the target really with that effort.

TALKING POINT How good or bad were Liverpool? Liverpool were very good, but they are lacking a finisher. Tell us something we didn't know. Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Daniel Sturridge will begin training with the Liverpool squad on Sunday. Which must be a massive boost after what turned out to be another frustrating afternoon in front of goal.
