Emre Can: Germany ready for Cristiano Ronaldo as world champions eye Portugal final showdown

Germany midfielder Emre Can has thrown down the gauntlet to Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of a possible Confederations Cup final with Portugal by proclaiming: "We're not scared of you."

The world champions could face the European champions in Sunday's final if both teams come through their respective semi-finals. Germany meet Mexico in Sochi on Thursday, a night after Portugal meet Chile in the first semi-final in Kazan.

Real Madrid forward Ronaldo has been in mouth-watering form so far at the World Cup warm-up event, scoring twice in three games and being named man in the match in all of his side's games so far.

But Liverpool midfielder Can believes Germany are well equipped to cope with the Liga and Champions League winner, who scored a remarkable 55 goals in 54 matches for club and country this season despite starting his season late due to injury on September 10.

"Nobody is scared of Ronaldo. "Obviously he is a world-class player, but nobody is afraid of him."

Can has heaped praised on Paris Saint-Germain winger Julian Draxler, who has been an impressive captain for a makeshift Germany side.

He scored a penalty in the 3-2 group win over Australia and has been a key provider of chances for the Joachim Low's team.

"He's been a very good leader," said Can.

He's not the loudest guy, but on the pitch I think you could see his quality in the three games. He is talking to the players, he wants to help and I think he has a lot of experience. He is doing it very well.

"You can see he always wants the ball, always wants to create something on the pitch.

"He wants to score always and you can see that in every game."
