The 2014 Ballon d’Or winner lashed out at opponent Edimar with just minutes remaining in the tie at the Nuevo Estadio El Arcangel.
The reigning European champions were locked in a 1-1 tie as Ronaldo appeared to kick and punch Edimar, earning himself a straight red card moments before Gareth Bale struck the game’s winner from the penalty spot.
But the Portuguese superstar took to Twitter after the match to apologise to everybody at Real Madrid and also to Edimar.
"I apologise to everyone and especially Edimar for my thoughtless action in today's game," the tweet said.
Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti declined to comment on the incident, saying: "I saw nothing. I have not spoken with him. I cannot judge what happened."
