Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo is considering a move to America when his contract expires in 2018, according to reports.
A story in Sports Illustrated suggests that the forward would be interested in moving to one of the bigger US cities, such as New York, Miami or Los Angeles, reports the Daily Telegraph.
As the recently-mooted player strike indicated, there are still issues around salary when it comes to attracting big-name talent to MLS, with Kaka currently the highest-paid player, on a reported $7,100,000 per year (£4,810,000).
Cristiano would command a similar sum if not more, so he would need to sign for a club with appropriate financial backing.
Ronaldo has come under fire in recent weeks for his attitude and Sergio Ramos has leapt to the defence of team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo following Sunday’s 2-0 victory over Levante.
The Portuguese has looked slightly downcast of late despite two goals in the Champions League defeat to Schalke, and was largely anonymous in the Levante game.
However, Ramos insists Madrid are not worried about his dip in performances and believes Ronaldo deserves to be honoured for everything he brings to the team.
“It’s difficult being Cristiano because he’s been performing at a very high level for a number of years,” he told the club’s official website.
“He knows himself better than anyone and he’s a very competitive person, so we’re not worried because we must appreciate what he brings to the team.”
