Agent confirms Arda Turan will leave Atletico Madrid this summer

The Turkish star has been at Vicente Calderon since 2011, but he is now set to leave the club as he seeks a new challenge.

“We won’t make a formal announcement until everything is signed,” the 27-year-old’s agent Ahmet Bulut said to NTV Spor. “In the next four days Arda will decide where he will play next season.”

Bulut also explained Turan’s decision to depart the Spanish capital, with PSG, Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester United touted as his next possible destination.

“Our decision to leave Atletico surprised them a lot, they didn’t want Ardan to leave.

“When we were planning Arda’s career and thinking about what he has won with Atletico in four years, we thought that the right decision was to leave Atletico.”

It appears as though Turan feels he can no longer fulfil the requirements of playing for Diego Simeone: namely combining the normal requirements of a creative midfielder with an insatiable desire for running. Both Simeone and Turan came to the club in 2011, and the physical toll that playing for a Simeone side can have on a player must not be under-estimated. Four years is a long time to play for the Argentine.

Turan would be a wonderful acquisition for the Premier League as he marries technical excellence with a torrid work rate. He would walk into any Premier League team.
