Germany head coach Joachim Low says Mario Gotze's decision to stay at Bayern Munich was made after speaking to incoming boss Carlo Ancelotti - allowing him to offer some reassurance to the young star.

The Germany boss had initially backed a change of scenery for the 23-year-old, telling Kicker earlier in the week: "a change can be freeing."
However, speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Low said about rumours Gotze did not feature in the new Bayern boss' plans: "He’s had a long talk with Ancelotti and I think a few falsities were said about that, but a coach can never give a guarantee and he told Mario that everybody starts from scratch from the start of the season under him.
"Mario has had offers, but I always felt he is in Munich with his heart and he wants to prove himself there," adding: "He told me he wants to stay in Munich and take his chance with the new coach and I think that’s a fine decision because it’s what his feeling tells him to do, so it’s the right decision for him.”
The Bayern star was thought to be one of Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp's key targets during the summer transfer window but announced on Monday he was looking forward to the new season in Munich under his new boss, Ancelotti.
Germany and Bayern Munich Legend Lothar Matthaus also says Mario Goetze made the right decision to stay on at his former club, according to reports on Wednesday.
Matthaus told TZ: "I don't know whether there was indeed an offer from Liverpool, but why would you want to join a club that does not even play Champion's League?"
On Goetze's difficult last season with Bayern, he said: "Mario has shown with his latest comments that he is ready to work for his place. This whole decision will make him stronger."
