Mowbray keeps calm over Maddison

The midfielder played his first game for three months following a back injury when he managed an hour in the under-21s' 1-0 win at Ipswich on Monday.

Maddison has made 12 appearances for the Sky Blues since making his debut in the Capital One Cup against Cardiff in August and signed his first professional deal in November.

The 18-year-old is unlikely to feature against Leyton Orient at the Ricoh Arena in Sky Bet League One on Wednesday and Mowbray moved to calm any hype over Maddison's return.

"He needs to not be held up there as some sort of saviour, he's just a young footballer who has a lot of talent. We need to manage him properly to get him fit," he said.

"He got an hour on Monday and it was one of those sapping pitches with a lot of grass on it so it was good for him.

"We have another game on Thursday so in my mind he would benefit more from playing for the under-21s again rather than 10 minutes on Wednesday.

"I think that'll be the plan to include him against Charlton on Thursday than on Wednesday.

"Monday was the first time I've seen him and he's got some talent to go with his confidence."

The Sky Blues are three points above the relegation zone, and four ahead of third-bottom Orient, with Mowbray wary of their fellow strugglers.

He added: "Teams at the bottom, when they have to find results, they can do that so we can't take anything for granted."
