Alkmaar blast RBC

Shota Arveladze grabbed a second half hat-trick as AZ Alkmaar won 5-0 at bottom club RBC Roosendaal in the Dutch first division on Tuesday. Alkmaar move up to second place with 52 points from 23 games, two behind leaders PSV Eindhoven who travel to Utrec

Martijn Meerdink got Alkmaar off to a flying start when he set up Barry van Galen for the opening goal after 11 minutes and doubled the lead himself eight minutes before the interval.
Georgian Arveladze sealed the win 10 minutes into the second half and added two more goals in the 64th and 83rd to lift his total for the season to 20.
Fifth-placed Groningen stayed a point behind Nijmegen after losing 1-0 at lowly Sparta Rotterdam to remain on 37 points.
Belgian Davy de Fauw settled the match with a long-distance strike six minutes from time to move Sparta six points clear of the bottom three.
