But RKC struck three times in 16 minutes before Robert popped up to spare their blushes.
Peruvian Farfan opened the scoring after 14 minutes but Belgian Benjamin de Ceulaer equalised for fourth-placed RKC three minutes later with a superb volley.
Farfan seemed to have settled the match with goals either side of halftime but the home side fought back.
However, Rick Hoogendorp's double and Stephan Keller's close range strike were not enough to secure a shock win as Robert scored his first goal of the season at the end.
PSV stay top with 29 points after 12 matches, four above AZ Alkmaar and Feyenoord, who travel to Groningen and Roda JC Kerkrade respectively on Sunday.
RKC are next with 23 points, five more then sixth-placed Ajax Amsterdam who won 2-0 over visiting Twente Enschede.
Ajax struggled for more then an hour but received some help from Twente defender Daniel Majstorovic, who scored an own goal to end the Amsterdam side's goalless drought after 443 minutes.
Markus Rosenberg then sealed Ajax's first win in five matches with a goal deep into injury time.
Fifth-placed Vitesse Arnhem have 20 points after a 4-3 win at lowly Willem II Tilburg on Friday helped by a hat-trick by Matthew Amoah.
Mid-table NEC Nijmegen and Utrecht booked 1-0 wins at ADO Den Haag and NAC Breda respectively on Saturday.
