Bayern Munich assistant manager Paul Clement is a surprise name being lined-up by the FA to work with new England boss Sam Allardyce, according to a report.
The FA are keen to promote home-grown coaches and Carlo Ancelotti's No 2, who has worked with the Italian at Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid, fits the bill.
With Allardyce announced as Roy Hodgson’s successor on Friday after a delay over compensation to his club Sunderland, The Times reports that he has given the green light for an approach to be made to the former Derby manager.
Clement was sacked in the summer, after just nine months at the Championship club, before returning to coach with the Bundesliga champions under new manager Ancelotti.
The 44-year-old is considered an excellent coaching prospect and could fill a role with England similar to that of Gary Neville under Hodgson. He has previously worked with Gareth Southgate at Under 21 level as well.
He will not be Allardyce’s No 2 however, as the 61-year-old could well appoint Neil McDonald and Mark Taylor, his trusted assistants from previous clubs.
He is also said to be hopeful of speaking to Fernando Hierro, the former Spain defender and Real Madrid captain. The 48-year-old is manager of Oviedo but formed a strong relationship with Allardyce during his season at Bolton in 2004-05.
