Hull City were relegated after a 0-0 stalemate with Manchester United where Marouane Fellaini was sent off for a wild challenge on Paul McShane.
Hull started brightly as Dame N’Doye headed straight at Victor Valdes, and two minutes later Wayne Rooney hit the bar with a rising shot from outside the box.
Hull then had two goals ruled out for offside in quick succession. First, Valdes dropped a routine cross, but James Chester’s toed pass forward to McShane found him offside as he turned it into the net. Valdes then conceded a corner with a fine save from Mohamed Elmohamady, and Stephen Quinn’s goal-bound shot from the set piece was flicked in by N’Doye, again offside.
Towards the end of the half Wayne Rooney lashed out at Quinn and was lucky to escape a booking with a late flick out at Robbie Brady.
In the second half, Hull had early chances with misses from David Meyler and McShane giving them hope, but with Newcastle ahead against West Ham they were doomed regardless. Ander Herrera had a shot desperately blocked by Michael Dawson, but United showed little attacking intent.
Fellaini was rightly sent off for leaving his studs on McShane’s thigh, but by that time the contest was over.

77’ - RED CARD! Fellaini goes in with a rough challenge on McShane. He comes in late, putting his studs in late on McShane's thigh.
KEY STATS
This is the first time in eight Premier League meetings that Hull have not lost to Manchester United.
Manchester United have drawn on the final day of the season for the last three campaigns (1-1 at Southampton in 2014, 5-5 at WBA in 2013).
Manchester United had gone eight Premier League games without a clean sheet until today.
Hull have never won a Premier League game in the month of May (W0 D4 L9).
Hull have won only eight of 43 Premier League games since qualifying for the 2014 FA Cup final.
TALKING POINT
Hull City rarely lacked for effort over the season, but quality. At the start of the season Abel Hernandez, Gaston Ramirez and Hatem Ben Arfa arrived, giving Steve Bruce a significant step up in quality in his midfield and attack. None of them were a success, and Ben Arfa was a disaster. N’Doye briefly impressed after a mid-season transfer, but by then it was too late. Hull were too far gone to be inspired.
MAN OF THE MATCH
Mohamed Elmohamady (Hull City): There are plenty of candidates for players who are worth retaining in the summer, and also for those who will be cut out as Hull rebuild for a promotion push. Elmohamady is in a different group, one of those players who will be wanted by others in the Premier League. There are few better attacking right-backs in the lower half of the league.
