On a night when the league's leading scorer Suarez was hotly tipped to land the player of the year award, he and Sturridge were joined by Reds captain Steven Gerrard in the league select XI.
The announcements at London's Grosvenor House Hotel came hours after Liverpool lost 2-0 to Chelsea in the Premier League, to hand Manchester City the initiative in the race to lift the title, with a slip from Gerrard leading to the Blues' first goal.
Petr Cech gets the nod in goal, fending off competition from the likes of Hull’s Allan McGregor and Tottenham's Hugo Lloris.
Notable omissions include Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey – who enjoyed a superb start to the campaign before injuries wreaked havoc with his season – and Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling.
While many of the players involved were sent messages of congratulations by their clubs on Twitter, the Football Association noted the inclusion of five players who could be World Cup bound with England this summer, stating: "Five @england players voted by professionals into @PFA team of the year: @GaryJCahill @LukeShaw3 Steven Gerrard, Adam Lallana @D_Sturridge"
PFA Premier League team of the year: Cech (Chelsea), Shaw (Southampton), Kompany (Man City), Cahill (Chelsea), Coleman (Everton), Hazard (Chelsea), Yaya Toure (Man City), Gerrard (Liverpool), Lallana (Southampton), Suarez (Liverpool), Sturridge (Liverpool).
