Manchester United confirm Angel Di Maria injury setback

Manchester United made one change for their Boxing Day match against Newcastle United as youngster Paddy McNair replaced Darren Fletcher - but Angel Di Maria was nowhere to be seen.

Fletcher dropped out of midfield from the team which drew 1-1 against Aston Villa on December 20.

United lined up in a 3-5-2 formation with Michael Carrick moving into midfield and McNair joining Phil Jones and Jonny Evans at the back.

However, there was no sign of Di Maria at all.

United confirmed that the Argentina international suffered an injury in the final training session before Friday's match in a fresh fitness setback.
