Liverpool hold Everton in fiery Merseyside derby

Premier League, Goodison Park - Everton 1 (Lukaku 45) Liverpool 1 (Ings 41)
Romelu Lukaku cancelled out Danny Ings' opener, as Everton and Liverpool played out a 1-1 draw in the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.
Before the match, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers praised his side's creativity and forward play, while warning his defenders that they needed to eliminate the mistakes that had been a feature of the season so far.
So the Northern Irishman would have been left aghast at Everton's equaliser in first-half injury time, as first Alberto Moreno allowed Gerard Deulofeu time on the right to float in angled cross, then Emre Can got his feet in tangle attempting to clear under minimal pressure.
Lukaku took full advantage of the errors, drilling home a low left-footed shot past Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.
England international Ings had given Liverpool the lead on 41 minutes, with a close-range header in the six-yard box from James Milner's corner.
Both sides were fortunate to end the match with a full complement of players, with Barkley and Lucas Leiva both testing referee Martin Atkinson's patience with late tackles following earlier yellow cards.
The sixth draw in seven Premier League matches between the sides sees Everton move above Arsenal in the Premier League into sixth place, although the Gunners could leapfrog Roberto Martinez's side with a win or a draw against Manchester United later on Sunday.
KEY MOMENTS
27' – SAVE! Brilliant from Mignolet to claw out Naismith's header from Barkley's free-kick. The Scot lost Sakho so easily in the area, though.
29' – SAVE! Mignolet is down to his left to beat out a McCarthy effort from the left-hand side of the area, following good work by Naismith.
41' – GOAL!Everton 0-1 Liverpool.. Ings steps off Barkley in the area to head home his second league goal of the season from Milner's corner.
45+1' – GOAL! Everton 1-1 Liverpool. Lukaku drills home the loose ball with his left foot after Can's dreadful hack at Deulofeu's cross from the right.
72' - SAVE! Coutinho takes on Browning and shoots early from the edge of the Everton area, but Howard is able to easily beat out the Brazilian's shot.
KEY STATS
Liverpool have only won one of their last nine Premier League away games, scoring just six goals (D4, L4).
Everton have not beaten Liverpool in their last ten attempts in the Premier League (D7, L3). They have not endured a longer winless league streak in this fixture since an 11-match run between 1979 and 1984.
TALKING POINT: How long does Daniel Sturridge need to get back to his best?
The England striker had scored six goals in his last eight league and cup games against Everton before today, but he looked off the pace at Goodison Park. The hip surgery he underwent last May has been a success, but Sturridge relies on speed and fluidity of movement to influence matches. The 26-year-old may have scored a brace in the 3-2 win over Aston Villa at Anfield last weekend, but it could take another few matches before we see him back to his best.
MAN OF THE MATCH
Phil Jagielka (Everton) In an Everton back four missing three regular players, Seamus Coleman, John Stones and Leighton Baines, Jagielka led by example and calmed the nerves of young full-backs Tyias Browning and Brendan Galloway. He arguably prevented three goals in the first-half through his excellent positioning, denying Milner at the near post, and twice making last-gasp interception ahead of the dangerous Ings in the penalty area.
