Real plan 2018 De Gea signing

Real Madrid are intent on signing Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea at the end of the season. Real president Florentino Perez has promised Sergio Ramos that he will bring the 26-year-old Spanish international to the Santiago Bernabeu back to Spain. Keylor Navas, Real's current number one goalkeeper - who almost joined United in a swap deal under Louis van Gaal - has been made aware of Perez's plans. Zinedine Zidane would be happy to keep Navas but it is not his decision.

Paper Round's view: This is a story that will go on until De Gea retires or does finally make the move. There is an acceptance that De Gea is happy at Manchester United and with life in England. He has not attempted to force his way out in the past, and United currently have no alternatives. Unless Jose Mourinho can identify one, this might be a case of mere paper talk until De Gea actually agitates to leave.

Guardiola warns Aguero and Sterling

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has warned both Raheem Sterling and Sergio Aguero about their hopes for the season. Guardiola has told Aguero that while he will play some part in the season, he can't consider himself the club's number one striker. He's also told Sterling - banned for City and subbed at half-time for England - that he can't feel sorry for himself when things don't go his way.
Paper Round's view: This story is being puffed up on the back page, but it's nothing new for either player to deal with. Aguero has been aware since the arrival of Gabriel Jesus that he cannot consider himself City's main striker any longer. Sterling, too, is used to plenty of criticism from opposition fans and pundits, and has continued to work on his game despite that. Nevertheless, they both may be questioning their future at City.

Klopp: fans will forgive Philippe Coutinho

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp believes that the club's fans will forgive Coutinho. The 25-year-old Brazilian international handed in a transfer request as Barcelona made a series of bids for him, but has remained at the club for the foreseeable future. Klopp doesn't anticipate any hard feelings between the player and his current supporters, because he didn't do anything as provocative as trying to join city rivals Everton.
Paper Round's view: Klopp cannot now criticise Coutinho, because he is one of the best players at his disposal. It is far better to keep him on side for at least another season, and then see if he can achieve enough with him to keep him for the longer term. Also, he's right. Coutinho's desire to join one of the biggest clubs in the world is perfectly understandable, and there is no point insulting his intelligence by pretending otherwise.

Anderson reaches 500 wickets

England fast bowler Jimmy Anderson reached 500 Test wickets on Friday against the West Indies. The total had been in view for a year or so, but has finally been met. After the day's play, Anderson said: "Ideally I would have got it out the way first day but Ben did not want me to, so I had to wait until today. I felt a bit emotional on the field, I knew my family were there in the crowd; kids, Mum and Dad, my wife. Knowing they were there made it very special as did sharing it with guys I have played over 100 Tests with.”
Paper Round's view: When Anderson broke into the England first team he did so as a David Beckham figure. He then had a brief spell away from the side before making his name in the 2005 Ashes. From there, he has been reliable, dangerous, spiky and professional, and achieved even more than Beckham.
