Martin Laursen has revealed that Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill wants to keep him at the club. The Danish defender's first season at the club has been heavily disrupted by injury, but he said the Villa Park boss had been impressed by him.
"I have talked to O'Neill and he wants to keep me," Laursen told the Ritzau new agency.
"After the [last game of the season] against Bolton he told me that if I were 23 years old he would have offered me a 10-year contract on the spot.
"But since I am 29 and I have been suffering from injuries lately he wants to take it slow."
The former Milan player started just 12 Premiership matches in a stop-start season that saw him ruled out for three months with a knee ligament injury.
He recently speculated about the possibility of a move to Danish side FC Copenhagen, but now looks like to stay in Birmingham.
