The Portuguese press have widely reported that the player's agent, Jorge Mendes, made the proposal to the board but was met with a firm "no." The 20-year-old Portugal international has a release clause in his contract of 20 million euros and the club are adamant that this should be met if he is to be sold.
Nani and his agent are understood to have accepted this and are keen to negotiate a three year contract extension for the player, which will also feature a similar release clause should reported suitors Milan and Manchester United follow-up on their interest.
United are tipped to be the most likely to buy the back-flipping player, who has been likened to Cristiano Ronaldo and would find a friend and compatriot on the Old Trafford coaching staff in Carlos Queiroz.
