Atletico Madrid have reportedly expressed their displeasure with a report in L’Equipe over alleged interest in Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani.
The publication claimed on Wednesday that the Spanish champions would offload Koke, Arda Turan or Mario Mandzukic to make way for the Uruguayan, whilst also maintaining that Atleti boss Diego Simeone has told the club he will only extend his contract if they sign the player.
However, club sources have told AS that the report “is false” and that the players mentioned as possible departures still have a big part to play in Los Rojiblancos’ plans for the future.
The same sources also suggested that Cavani is outside Atletico’s price range as they need to balance the books.
“It would break the economic control we are under as part of the Spanish Professional Football League,” Atleti are quoted as saying.
OUR VIEW: This seems very fishy. It seems rather unlikely that Atleti would have the financial power to bring in a player like Cavani from a club like PSG. There's no way they would sacrifice either Koke or Turan - who are both integral members of the team - and while Mandzukic is possible, this just sounds like paper speculation.
