New President Giampietro Manenti promised outstanding wages – which stretch back to July 2014 – would be paid by Monday, but almost a week later there’s still no sign of the cash from his company in Slovenia.
The Lega Serie A decided to call off tomorrow’s Serie A match with Udinese, as Parma don’t have the money to pay for stewards or security.
“Without the stewards, they could not play with a crowd in the stands,” explained Mayor Pizzarotti to Sky Sport Italia.
“From Monday we will go to the Collecchio training ground to have a daily catch-up with everyone.”
The Mayor was present at a meeting with the squad, Lega Serie A President Carlo Tavecchio, the Players’ Association and Coaches’ Association on Friday.
“I saw nothing reassuring from a financial point of view. The problem now is that not only is it an economic factor, but also one of credibility. We’ll update the situation day by day.
“Yesterday the meeting was rather heated from all involved. People bought a football club in a difficult situation without realising it would take time to move money from abroad. We’re not talking about a local butcher, but a Serie A club.
“We have to work and we need clarification, as already too much time has been wasted. As the local council, we can only do so much, because Parma are a privately-owned club.
“There are now two problems to contend with. The first is reaching the end of the season, then from June onwards other scenarios open up, such as bankruptcy.
“I would like President Manenti to clarify the situation once and for all. There are others too who are responsible for this situation, I’m thinking of the Lega Serie A, the FIGC and the previous owners.”
If Parma are unable to complete the campaign, the results put together so far will stand, but any future fixtures will turn into automatic 3-0 victories for opponents.
