Spireites bring in Billy

Beresford, the son of former Newcastle full-back John, has been training with the Sky Bet League One club and Spireites boss Paul Cook has added the 18-year-old to his squad to boost numbers ahead of the forthcoming Christmas schedule.

Cook revealed at his pre-match press conference on Friday that Beresford will be among the substitutes at Gillingham on Saturday.

Beresford was a scholar at Scunthorpe and also had a spell on loan at Sheffield Wednesday.

His grandfather, also called John, played for Chesterfield in the 1960s.
